Wont let me in

I have an WD MYbook Essentials external drive …when I try to back-up …for example quickbooks (which Iwas able to do on my other computer XP) ,  on windows 8, it wil say “the currently logged in windows user does not have permission to write or delete files from this location”…anyone know what to do ?..thanks
