Wireless audio

I’m a new hub user. I’m also pretty clueless about audio, so what I want to do may be be easy or hard. Basically, when I am playing movies stored on the hub on my TV (via HDMI), I want to stream the audio wirelessly to speakers (which I have yet to buy) on the other side of the room. I’d prefer not to spend vast amounts on a surround sound system, but if possible use some kind of wireless adaptor that can plug into the hub’s optical output (or perhaps the RCA output) that can then transmit directly to the speaker. In the same way that I can stream wirelessly from an iphone to jawbone speakers.  I’d prefer not to transmit from the TV itself as its located in an inaccessble place high up on the wall. I am already using a wireless bridge (an Asus WL-330N3G) to connect to my home network.

Is what I want possible?  Thanks for any input.

I guess you are looking for this

just look for wireless speakers with transmitter
and RCA connector adapter

Do you want these just for listening to music? If you don’t want to spend a lot for a true surround sound system there are much cheaper alternatives like a soundbar and subwoofer setup that will give you quality sound. The solution posted above looks cheap and low-fi sounding to me.

quality sound with soundbar and subwoofer

yeah right

Thanks for the feedback. I take it that going wireless from the optical port is a non-starter, so I’m thinking of getting a 2.4GHz transmitter/receiver pair like this:

and attaching (via an adaptor) to a Bose SoundDock III:

Kind pricey but with the iphone it kills two birds with one stone.

Actually, yes. There are a lot of quality manufacturers that make them and some can be had for under $200. Reading the reviews of the system you posted all the negative comments are related to sound quality.  [Deleted]

Does it matter? The OP asked for suggestions. You posted yours and I posted mine. You’re the one who is trying to make it personal.

I would stay away from 2.4ghz and go to 5ghz. I know they have 4 different channels you can switch them to to avoid problems with a router but going 5 ghz would avoid that completely IF you’re not using a wireless N for it now. There is so much 2.4 stuff around from room monitors, phones and routers it might be hard to get them setup and not have or be the cause of some RF interference problem. Maybe 900mhz might be better too… lower freqs usually mean more range.
