Wire and power cord/newbie

My wire keeps falling out of the back.and I cannot connect the book to my computer.  It seems  the case has warped  because it is bent .  When I push in one side, the other side pops out.  and the end of the wire cannot make a connection.  Can the casing be removed and I can try  connect the wire like that? .  I don’t want to screw anything up and this is my first experience with a external drive.  Also it is out of warranty for a year so I cannot send it in for repair.   I don’t want to lose everything that is on it.  Any suggestions?

Since the drive is out warranty you could try removing the case in the attempt to recover the files.

The downside of this is that if you are not familiar with this process you could damage the drive further.

If that’s the case, your best bet will be to contact a data recovery specialist.

The recovery can be complicated. Not all the drives use standard SATA connectors. If the drive came with Smartware the data will be hardware encrypted.
