Windows Server 2008 R2 Smartware

In Windows Server 2008 R2 WD Smartware installs fine but doesn’t see any NAS drives. I’m thinking, if I installed 7 within Hyper-V I may be able to use WD Smartware in a VM. Is this the only way or is there a way to make WD Smartware work properly on a server?

Hi,

At the moment the WD Smartware software is not fully compatible with windows server R2. According to our user manual the software is only compatible with the following windows OS.

• Windows XP
• Windows Vista®
• Windows 7
• Windows 8

I’m not able to confirm for you if installing the 7 on a VM will fix that for you.

Please try that and let us know.

The Windows 7 install in Hyper-V does see the NAS’s I have but unfortunately WD SmartWare does not allow you to select a network drive (my windows server 2008 r2 share) as a source. I’m going to look for a way to map the network drive as a local drive through third party software (since WD smartware doesn’t see symlinks) and I’ll report back.
