HELP!!! what does this mean??? i have googled read forums Q&A’s and i have not been able to fix this problem.

My external hard drive is working and when i plug it into my laptop a message comes up “USB device malfunctioned and is not recognised” .

Any help would be greatly appriciated!

Hello,

It is possible the Laptop computer is not providing enough power to spin the drive properly. Make you use are not using any extension cords or USB hubs.

Have you tried it on a desktop computer?

Hi, thanks for your suggestion but my computer is working fine and taking other USB devices fine. I am also not using an extension cable.
