I recently found a solution for a problem I had been having with my 1TB MyBook Home since 2011 when I connected it to my new Windows 7 PC (it had worked fine on my previous Vista PC). After running a Windows 7 Backup with image copy, the PC started hanging up when Windows started loading. The only solution was to force it down by holding down the start button. I eventually discovered that if the MyBook was disconnected before starting the PC and then connected after the PC reached the login screen, everything worked fine.
I deleted the Windows 7 backup and image copy, but the PC just couldn’t get past loading Windows with the MyBook plugged in. Just recently (6/2013) I found a fix!
THE FIX: I ran CCleaner (free program by Piriform) to “wipe” the free space of the MyBook. This feature is in the “tools” section. It took several hours for the process to complete but I no longer have to disconnect my MyBook every time I shut down the PC and plug it in again after starting it up! I suppose I could have done the same by reformatting (and not a Quick format) the MyBook but this way I got to keep all the files I had!
