Windows asks to format when external hard drive is plugged in! HELP!

I have been using my wdbaau0025hbk wd external hard drive - 2.5tb for years now, and all of a sudden this morning, my computer says the hard drive needs to be formatted? I didn’t make any updates on the computer or anything. I have tens of thousands of precious photos on there, along with music and documents that I wish not to lose.

How can I access these without losing anything?! Is this a questions for Windows? Is there a best practice that WD uses to get the data back or make the hard drive accessible?

Please let me know!

Have you tried using the unit on a different computer?

Make sure to connect the USB cable to the back USB ports of the computer as this might be a power issue to powering the drive properly.
