Hello,
I have seen a few issues that appear to be related to my issue;
however none appear identical. I have a WD USB 2.0/3.0 external hard drive drive that works great. I recently
reformatted my laptop to get a clean install.
When my laptop boots with
the external usb hard drive (MyBook) connected I get a 30 period after the
STARTING WINDOWS screen where the display goes black and about 15 seconds of
this time there is no indication the computer is doing anything (no hard drive light activity). When I have my external
monitor plugged in it actually goes to NO SIGNAL and goes to sleep during this
phase.
I looked at my BIOS settings, I do not have any options for
“legacy USB support” and I have also removed all my other startup order options
aside from my internal hard drive I cannot understand this being a BIOS issue
as the BIOS has not changed between me formatting and reinstalling, also the
starting windows screen loads before the issue comes up. When the screen comes
back on I see the welcome screen and am in windows within a few
seconds.
If I unplug my USB hard drive it boots 30 seconds faster and no
blank screen, instead I see the WELCOME screen a bit longer. This is driving me
crazy! I have the latest firmware on the drive. I contacted WD and their
solution is to have it unplugged during each boot, which is not really a
solution, more of a work around.
Any ideas?
Mike
