Windows 7 Crash and back up HDD

Well, here’s hoping that WD responds.

Running Win 7. Installed an I/O PCB in Dell Latitude. Win 7 decides to forgot how to boot. Tried all sorts of recovery, including running Knoppix 7.2 as an OS. Knoppix 7.2 runs, so HDD is OK, just [Profanity deleted - Trancer] Windows 7.

Anyway, I want to do a clean install but want to use a new WD My Passport 1 TB to offload my data, images and music files. I can see both the HDD and the WD in Knoppix file manager and can access both.

Can I just ‘cut and paste’ the data from the HDD to the Passport? I don’t see any WD software running while in Knoppix to set up a backup of the data. Can the My Passport be used as just an external HDD?  Once the clean install of Win 7 is done, will this data be easily transferred back to the HDD? At that point, then install the WD into Windows?

Thanks

Dennis

Hello Leadmann,

Yes, you can use the drive as a normal storage unit. Using copy and paste options, wont affect the drive functionality
