I have a new computer, a Surface Laptop, that comes with Windows 10 S (a secure OS). This version of Windows, only alows to install secure Apps from the Windows Store and, for that cause, I can only use Microsoft Edge as the one and only browser.
So, I just want to know how can I access to MyCloud.com when this site STILL doesn’t support Edge. This is just unbelievable! It’s 2017, Western Digital, wake up!!!
@espaciobyte I am not familiar with what you bought but surely you did some research on what it would do before you bought it.
Asking Cortana, the following is what I found when looking at Windows 10 S information.
Can I change my default web browser on my Windows 10 S PC?
Microsoft Edge is the default web browser on Windows 10 S and Bing the default search engine in Microsoft Edge when customers are in Windows 10 S configuration. Customers are always in control of their Windows experience. When in Windows 10 S configuration, you are able to download any browser available in the Windows Store and can navigate to any other search engine website. If you want to download a browser (or any other application) not in the Windows Store, you can switch to Windows 10 Pro, at which time you can set the browser and search engine defaults of your choice.
the thing is that if this works on other browsers and even on IE, there is no valid technical reason why should not support Edge, here you can find some web standard support list:
My point is that the WD tools predate Edge, and have been working with other browsers for a long time.
This may indeed be due to the fact that the WD code isn’t perfectly compliant with a certain interpretation of one of the many specifications for webpages.
But if you’re going to blame every web page for being non-compliant with more stringent, or simply different interpretation of the specifications by a new web browser, then you’re going to be denied access to a huge number of web pages. That’s what my searches were intended to show; Edge cause problems for a huge number of websites.
You then have to ask the question: who should fix the issues on all those web pages? The developers of all those web pages? Or the developer of the web browser, even if that means being a bit more lax in the interpretation of the specifications?
Often the problem was of developers because threated Edge as IE instead as a modern browser, but as long we don’t know the technical reason we cannot help.
The point is, Microsoft changed the web browser to Edge for “Security” reasons. Microsoft Edge is the most secure browser out there now (Microsoft Edge Comes Out On Top In Browser Security Test). Chrome, Firefox, Safari and IE are extremely vulnerable to web-based security flaws. In this day and age with so many hackers, phishing sites, virus, etc out there, I would think WD would (and they could) update their software to work with the more secure browser. Dictate all you want about legacy stuff, but WD has the technology, manpower and resources needed to update their software to allow the new, more secure, web browser to be used, thereby providing us increased security for our data. As espaciobyte was saying, there is NO REASON WD can’t update their software to allow us to use the more secure web browser. It’s 2017, not 1997! Microsoft Edge browser is going to be on every new Windows 10 PC being manufactured from this moment on. Another thought, is that in the case of the new Windows S devices, you have to upgrade your PC (at a cost BTW) to Windows 10 Pro before you can add any other browser (this also eliminates the security of Windows S which defeats the purpose of why people are buying the Windows S systems to begin with). The growth of Microsoft Edge browser is going to increase at an exponential rate as more and more Windows 10 PCs are sold. So, the way I see it, either WD updates their software to allow use on Edge browser, or they start losing sales of their devices to competitors who already have.
Well said! This is what I’m talking about… We are almost in 2018… What is the excuse?
WD had lost me as an user. I only use their “stupid” cloud only for local backup… a pity… And, I will replace it for another brand device that supports Edge.
The point is, most developers and companies are LAZY. They don’t really care about users. I will stick with the companies that really cares… and, for sure, WD is not included!
I totally forgot to reply to this conversation, attached you can see mycloud in edge, just letting the website believe that I’m using internet explorer, no surprise that it works perfectly as I predicted
Thanks for your reply.
I tried, and Edge is not working still. I tried to log in and the known “Your browser is not compatible” remains the same.
When you go to My Cloud Home, it shows the welcome screen (in Edge), but when you try lo log-in, it goes to “Your browser is not compatible”… nothing has changed.
sorry maybe I was not clear, as you can see from my screenshoot, you have to press F12 in Edge, go to emulation tab and in user agent string set internet explorer 11, in this way the website believe that you’re using internet explorer and let you use it normally … it’s not an official solution, but just to demonstrate that there are no technical problems, wd/developers are just lazy
I’ve try opening the site in Edge on Windows 10 Mobile (phone) and it’s impossible. Because in the phone, there’s no way to emulate IE… Only pure Edge is available.
