Win XP system will not boot with WD5000AAKX attached

I have a Biostar NFS325-A7 motherboard. My boot drive is an IDE drive. I want to use this SATA drive as a secondary, one partition drive in Windows XP. I have put the jumper on pins 7/8 as instructed. However my PC will not boot with this drive attached. It locks up on the bios splash screen. I have tried it on the primary SATA connection and the secondary. smiliar results. It did attempt to start Windows one time then locked up.

Is my bios not compatible with this drive? It is a rather old motherboard.

Thanks,

MC

I attached to drive to a via 6421 sata card. The system now boots but Windows XP does not recognize the drive.

You need to add the via 6421 sata card to the “boot time” drivers in order the see the drive at the time of XP install.

I can try that but I don’t want to use it as a boot drive. I only want to use it as a secondary drive.

Thanks,

MC
