Will not accept files or register new My Passport

Brand new out of the box. I can find the device on finder. Error messages include no usb device detected. The unit is on finder. It is running.

Will not let me register the device.

Tells me that software is up to date. Version 4.3.361 (I have other WD Devices, one currently running on the same computer.)

Will not let me transfer any files.

Kindly check the drive format, as most of the external hard drives are designed to work for Windows computers. Windows was mainly optimized for NTFS (New Technology file system) format, on the other hand, APFS was created for the Mac OS. NTFS is not compatible with Mac and similarly, APFS does not get along with Windows. So if you’re trying to connect an external hard drive to a Mac, you might have to format the drive to the supported file system before you can use it.
