Will MP4 audio via optical be fixed?

You have to switch to stereo in order to have audio. It shouldn’t be necessary. I have an LG Blu-Ray player that streams MP4 and outputs audio through the optical cable (pass-thru) just fine.

WD must be working in a fix for this, this has been reporter already and it is really annoying.
