Will a Hitachi 3 TB Touro USB 3.0 external drive work with the WD TV Live Streaming Media Player?

Very keen to buy this unit, but need conformation that it will definately work with a Hitachi 3 TB Touro USB 3.0 external drive??

Any help or comments appreciated.

Concerning USB 3.0 is not clear. More details here:

Thanks for the reply Oldman, had a good look at the thread… I could probably handle it only working off the front port, although it might spoil the asthetics a litte? As I presume you need the front to be exposed for the remote to work? My main concern is that the drive will be seen by the unit. The reason I am in this position is becasue I bought the drive to go with a Sumivision Cyclone 3 media player and that will not recognise the drive… now it seems that this may be a result, as it looks like the WD TV Streamer is a far superior box… for not too big a premium… but not if I am left with the same problem of the drive not working…

Happy to hear any comments thoughts…

The whole player is good. If not for this little problem, it would be really nice.

I think for this price did not find anything better. In any case, the decision is up to you.

I tend to agree, seems to have a nice sweetspot of price/capability… although I might not think so if I buy it and the drive does’nt work! I was hoping someone might have had experience of using this particular drive, but you cant have everything…

I have just spotted this which looks like it could be a interesting competitor, although it is another £25…

Just wanted to report that I bought a WD SMP over the wknd, I applied the firmware update, plugged in my USB 3 Hitachi Touro 3TB HD and all worked perfectly. So far happy with the unit, IMO the only thing it is really lacking is an internet browser…

It has a browser (un-supported)

Excellent choice!

I fully loaded the 3TB with media (Films & TV) and have left it hooked up to the WDLS as I left for work this morning, any ideas how long it will take to pull down all the metainfo for this much data?
