I bought this device the other day (WDTV Live) and am very keen on getting this wifi enabled.
When looking through all of the settings there is no wireless option? Does this only appear when a valid wifi adapter is plugged in?

Yes, you must have a supported adaptor plugged in before you see the wireless menu.

Note that the version / revision is important. Other adaptors may work but it all depends on if the chipset is supported.
