Widescreen option is bugged?

Hi,

I have black border bars from left and right sides on the screen,

when i watch Over-Under movie. It’s like the image is in 4:3 format… the movie itself is in 16:9 format.

I’ve played with all kind of scalling option from my TV but ends to no results.

Then i decide to change from the WD TV smp option aspect ratio from “Widescreen” to “Normal”,

and the black borders bards from left and right sides was reduced, but was still there.

How come the “Normal” provide more Widescreen, than when i set to “Widescreen”?

Looks like the “Widescreen” is not working properly…

Can some test it? Im using the latest firmware 1.07.18.

Thanks

Is your TV 4:3 or 16:9? Howis it connected? HDMI or COMPOSITE? Also, Please post the full TEXT output of MEDIAINFO for such a file.

Why did you set the PAR to 0.889? It should be 1:1 for High Def 16:9 content… The bug is your encode, not the WDTV. The WDTV is squishing the video because the video says to do it.

"Why did you set the PAR to 0.889? It should be 1:1 for High Def 16:9 content… "

Dunno, its not done by me. That is how i get it originally.

“The bug is your encode, not the WDTV. The WDTV is squishing the video because the video says to do it.”

Ok, but what the “Widescreen” option is suppose to do then?

If i Enabled it its squishing even more, compared to “Normal”.

I think something is wrong with it

In other word to scale properly i need to set the Aspect Ratio to Normal,

then will get the expected ratio 0.889 [for this movie], if i set the Aspect Ratio to Widescreen,

[like its suppose to be and like i was until now]

then the movie will be displayed squished say in 0.5-0.6 ratio… dunno why is this.

If i keep “Normal” Aspect Ratio i get a real 16:9 and not 4:3 like its written in manual.

When i set it to “Widescreen” dunno what i get… its an squished image…

The Widescreen option of the WD TV SMP definitely is flawed and do not work properly, i’ve report it here:

http://community.wdc.com/t5/WD-TV-Live-Streaming-Issue/Widescreen-option-is-bugged/idi-p/401697

Hope they will fix it asap.
