Why Myclod sync doesn't work?

I can login fine to my account ( on windows 7), I can download/upload files, but the sync from Mycloud hasn’t worked since the first day I bought it.So Somebody has the same problem and solution? Many thanks!

What does “the sync from Mycloud hasn’t worked since the first day” actually mean? Was the software installed and configured properly? Does it generate an error when it attempts to sync? What OS are you using? Is the firmware of the My Cloud up to date (ie the most current version installed)? Are you using the latest version of the WD Sync program? Are you syncing remotely or across the local network? What other troubleshooting steps have you tried?

If one does a forum search they’ll see others are having various issues with the WD Sync software. Some have uninstalled WD Sync and moved to using 3rd party programs like Free File Sync (http://www.freefilesync.org/)

First of all thank you for replying.
1.What does “the sync from Mycloud hasn’t worked since the first day” actually mean?

  • it shows that all the files are the latest but it’s not true. just nothing happened, no matter you put on the cloud and try to sync to local drive sync folder or opposite. either way doesnt work.

2.Was the software installed and configured properly?
-Yes I think so. I can run the sync software fine.

3.Does it generate an error when it attempts to sync?
-No, it doesn’t. it seems that it doesnt even “attempt” to sync and shows that all the files are the latest version. No error.

  1. What OS are you using?
-Windows 7 (x64). the same problem occurred on first day I bought this NAS machine. neither didn’t work on Windows 7 (x86), nor on Windows 10 (x64).

  2. Is the firmware of the My Cloud up to date (ie the most current version installed)?
-Yes. the first day I bought this device it upgraded to the latest version automatically already. and I checked also today, all the version still the latest. the softwares are all downloaded from the official website, making sure for the latest version.

6.Are you syncing remotely or across the local network?
-Neither across the local network nor remotely doesn’t sync.

7.What other troubleshooting steps have you tried?
-Yes. I couldn’t login remotely but today I fixed it. so now I’m trying to fix the sync software problem, if possible.

  1. If one does a forum search they’ll see others are having various issues with the WD Sync software.
-I did search a lot both on google and on wd forum, people asked the similar questions, some solved, some didn’t. but this still didn’t help me to solve my problem. that’s why I try to ask in community by myself.

9.Some have uninstalled WD Sync and moved to using 3rd party programs like Free File Sync
-Yes, I chose so, too. the problem is that I can sync in a local network, but can not sync remotely.

Hope my answers can help to find the solution to fix.

Thank you again!!!:grinning:

To start trouble shooting the failure to sync, start with those PC’s that are on the same local network as the My Cloud. Make sure to install the WD Sync while logged in as the Computer’s Administrator or with an account that has full administrator rights Try uninstalling the WD Sync software then reboot the PC, then reinstall the software. If you haven’t already done so configure the My Cloud with a static IP address either within the router’s DHCP server (the preferred way) or via the My Cloud Dashboard > Settings section. Ensure all PC’s are updated with the latest updates. Check the computer’s firewall configuration, disable it as a test to see one can sync. If all else fails try doing a 4 second reset and or a 40 second system restore. .

Do not initially try to sync multiple PC’s to the same single My Cloud sync folder if you are trying to do so. There are problems (as discussed in other threads) when trying to sync multiple PC’s to the same single sync folder. See this post:

Bi-directional syncing is hit or miss. For some it just doesn’t work for some reason. There was a recent thread about that issue:

While third party sync programs generally do not allow for remote syncing, one may be able to setup remote syncing using FTP and third party sync software. However, FTP is not a secure protocol. FTP can be enabled through the My Cloud Dashboard Settings section. It may be possible to setup SFTP on the My Cloud and use the Free File Sync SFTP option to sync files. See the following post/thread for more information on possibly setting up SFTP:

Prior to the introduction of the OS 3 firmware it would have been possible, with remote drive mapping through WD2Go.com, to map the My Cloud and sync remotely using third party software. However, WD removed the remote map capability with OS 3 and their update to the MyCloud.com web portal. Unofficially it may still be possible to use remote mapping and third party sync software by installing the CloudDAVMod module to a My Cloud running v4.x firmware. Once CloudDAVMod is installed one can remote map their My Cloud once again.

Feel free to voice your opinion about WD removing the capability to officially remote map at the following Cloud Ideas thread.
