Why is my MyPassport for Mac not mounting?

My MyPassport for Mac 1tb is being shown in Disk Utilities as read only. I cannot eject it, because disk utiities says it is in use. It also says it is not mounted. I’ve tried to eject it, but it fails, and I’ve tried to mount it, but that fails, too.
Should I partition it? If so, how do I do that, and should I also change its name. It IS recognized by Disk Utilities, but does not show up on my desktop or in Finder.
We had a 3 hr power outage the other day during the snowstorm, and I’m wondering if that had something to do with it.
I also did a “force quit” on Finder, but it still does not show up.

HELP!!
