Seem to have a problem with my backup disc connected to 24” iMac running IOS Tahoe it appears to be backing up, cannot check for errors as Status Passed , Quick scan Passed but detailed Scan Fails. It indicates on info: ‘can only read’ and if I select a recent backed up file ‘Restore’ stays greyed out. I suspect IOS update as my wife has similar Computer and back up disc and has similar problems
Maybe this issue is due to your recent macOS update. Your WD My Passport is likely mounted read-only, which is why it says “can only read“ and why Restore is grayed out. Since the detailed scan fails, back up your data before trying fixes. Then, check the disk format and run First Aid. Also, test on another Mac. If the same behavior occurs on multiple Macs, it’s likely a drive issue, not just macOS.
Thanks for the suggestion. Have carried out a test and it does appear that the disk is faulty so have ordered another one, it’s coming tomorrow. Incidentally I bought it in 2019 so well out of warranty.

My new WD My Passport for Mac arrived so have proceeded to install it BUT this one says ‘can only read’ and RESTORE is greyed out. At least it backs up but how will I be able to use it.
