Which USB 3.0 hub? Help please

Hi all,

I have an ASUS laptop with both USB 3.0 and 2.0 capability. Or I did until one of the USB ports broke recently. It doesn’t look like it’s a software issue but is something hardware related and is probably not worth the money it would cost to fix it. Now this is a problem for me because I use a wireless mouse as the trackpad isn’t that trustworthy (in the 2.0 port I think) and then I think there are two other 3.0 ports for use. However I often have to have several things plugged into the ports and now I am unable to plug all my gadgets in. Now I have three WD My Books all 6TB with power that supplies those, and also three My Passport external hard drives that are portable and the power comes from the computer. They are not all plugged in at once, but the more that I can plug in at once the better. So I need a USB 3.0 hub I think that will enable me to run a mixture of these (also a NIKON camera, ipod classic, samsung phone etc when necessary) without causing any of these items to get damaged. Now I have looked at a few of them and it says you can’t run external hard drives on them because the connection is unstable (something to do with the power supply?), so I’m not sure what to do here. What technical specifications do I need to be looking for here in an item to solve my problem? I have been looking on Amazon for something but I’m really not sure what to get and how to prevent my hard drives crashing etc and losing all my data.

Has anyone got any advice or suggestions on what I would need to buy, obviously balancing both cost and reliability?

Thanks in advance
