I am confused as to which devices are OS5 compatible. It seems that the lower TB of EX2 Ultra are not OS5? I’ve been browsing the product forums here and reading conflicting information.
I’m looking to move away from the My Cloud/My Cloud Home line (obvious concern - lack of future support for an OS6+).
So I am looking into the EX2 Ultra, PR2100 and EX4100 but unsure if the TB size impacts OS5 compatibility. Example - is the EX2 Ultra 4TB OS5 compatible or is it only the 16TB and above?
The list of Affected Devices page is confusing - My Cloud OS3 End of Service | Western Digital. It lists upgrade options but at the same time also lists the same upgrade option as an Affected Device. That’s why it seems to appear that the amount of TB also affects whether it’s OS5 compatible or not.
Does anyone have a list of which series (incl TB size) is compatible with OS5 and +?
There isn’t a OS5 limitation on the capacity. Either the My Cloud device and model, regardless of storage capacity size, supports OS5 or it doesn’t.
Where are people saying that devices that are listed as supporting OS5 don’t support it? Where are you seeing the confusion over the EX2 Ultra and which capacities support OS5? Its important to understand the difference between a device supporting OS5 and user complaints in these subforums about devices not being able to properly run or operate due to the OS5 indexing issue that many are running into. It is also important to understand that WD naming conventions can confuse people. For example the EX2 and the EX2 Ultra are different devices. The EX2 Ultra supports OS5, the EX2 does not. The Mirror Gen 2 supports OS5 but the original Mirror does not.
Because OS5 was recently introduced one may end up buying a My Cloud that while it supports OS5 (v5.x firmware) may actually come out of the box with OS3 v2.x firmware. In that case one simply follows the procedure to update to OS5 firmware.
