It’s mid-2013 and the current WDTV Live SMP is getting really stale. It needs a faster processor to speed up the UI, and not to mention the UI needs an overhaul as well.
Time and time again the WDTV Live is recommended by word-of-mouth as one of the best local content media players available at the moment. And in Australia it often wins by default, as it’s the player with the least amount of hassles compared to the competition. Why not capitalize on this, WD? The overseas market needs a player that is good at organizing local content. We don’t get the likes of Hulu or Netflix - these pay-based services are almost always US/Canada based only.
I hope WD hasn’t abandoned the Live in favour of online-based players like the WDTV Play. I know the Play plays local files, but it’s just displayed as a file list which is no different than a smart TV or bluray player.
