What's best to extend hard drive life - constant spinning or limiting to 1h a day?

If have an old PC that I’d like to use for backups. It’s an old PC, but the hard drive is new. It’s a 6TB WD Blue which I recently purchased for this purpose. I can have this machine run 24x7 or limit it to work only when it’s doing the backups (which is less than 1 hour a day). Which option would be better to extend the life of the drive?

WD RED is designed to be used for 24x7 read/write as it is used in NAS.

If you only want to use the computer for backup limiting it would be a good option.

i also need to know the answer for this
im currently running a WD2500JD and its 12 years old
the last 6months i have had the drive spinning 24/7
i need it to last untill i can decide to get a WD RED/PURPLE/GOLD or VNAND SSD
