Hi,
I have a WD external disk (among other external disks).
Yesterday, the disk has died on me.
At first, it seemed that only the power supply was dead (tested it and the output is zero). So I tried the disk with another - working - power supply, but no luck; disk still not working.
Now, I’m a technician and I know the smell of a burnt resistor or chip. And yes: the disk has the unmistaken smell of a fried component inside. Considering that the power supply is gone, my guess is somewhere in the voltage regulation.
So I think the best thing I can do is to search for another disk and switch the pcb’s - if possible. But the problem is the type: the only ‘type’ I can find is ‘D3C (B)’ on the label. Is this compatible with the ‘elements’ types ? They sure look the same (at least, if I examine the pictures). A search in Google brings me on a lot of pages pointing to the ‘elements’ disks…
And I’m not even sure what the capacity of the drive was … (as I said: I have other disks too and it is getting hard to keep them apart)
So all in all this may be harder than it looks …
any suggestions ?
Erik
