What is the best format type to use for both Mac OS and Windows

I’am a proud owner of a new 2TB disk, I intend to use the disk across different OS platforms, which is the format recommended for such use.

FYI, WD formats its drives intended to be used on both platforms as exFAT, Example product: WD My Passport Wireless; a hard drive for both platforms.
