What have I done?

I just bought the WD TV Play as connecting a USB disc directly to my TV is not an ideal solution. I hoped the WD TV Play would give me some flexibility with skipping/fast forward etc. which is missing with the USB method.

Having installed the player, the first problem is that it does not recognise my USB disc, a 3 TB Toshiba USB 3.0 which is set up as a GPT disc rather than an MBR disc, to allow access to the full 3 TB capacity. There appears to be nothing in the specs  to say that GPT discs are unsupported, but it just doesn’t show up when connected.

I copied some movies to another USB disc and now the next problem - the player wil not play my movies, which are all ripped .mkv files from a variety of rippers, all of which play happily on my PC with any one of the common bluray players and on my TV (Samsung) via direct USB connect.

I finally got one movie to play, but this would not play the sound - the player advised that I needed to connect up an audio amp in order to play sound.

Is this product a joke?

Have I done something seriously wrong? 

Yes, it can access Netflix and BBC iPlayer, but I could do that already.

Don’t know.  We’d need to know more about what you’re trying to play.

Please post the full TEXT output of MEDIAINFO for file’s you’re having problems with.

 Is it? I can fast forward up to 16x, do a 10-min skip and skip to desired time from USB.

Like I wrote above, the player’s file support is limited compared to the LIVE. No MPEG2 and DTS bitstreaming to AVR only.

It’s a X264 with High@L4.1 profile (reading from BUGGED manual)… wd tv play support x264 whit this profile. Try to rename in .mp4 or try to remux using MKVToolnix.

I thinks no… because the DTS it’s reported no compatible.

Try to use the Optical Output and a external dolby digital ampli… i thinks only downmix throught RCA output or HMDI output it’s no supported but i’m not sure :slight_smile:

So that’s why the posters files do not play or have no sound. They are either mpeg2 or have DTS sound. Changing the extension to mp4 etc will have no effect.
