What drive for a DVR PC? High strain

I’ve been doing a lot of research and can’t work out what the best drive is for my needs.

I mainly use my PC for recording, downloading and streaming TV and movies to my xbox/smart TV, i turn my PC on from afternoon till bed time. It records up to two shows at a time all night. When i’m watching live TV it time shifts the last hour or so which means non stop read writing for long periods of time.

I had a seagate as my only drive which has now died (more or less) so now i have a wd blue as my system drive and need to find a robust drive as my media drive. I want to take the stress off the system drive this time around.

I’m going to go for a 2TB and only have sata II ports so high performance drives might be wasted on me unless what i’ve read is right and sata III doesn’t add much extra, i"m also not willing to spend big money.

Can i use a DVR specialised drive or will a wd red be fine? Nether is designed for use as a internal PC drive but does that matter

Hope someone can help i’m so confused with all the choices

Hello,

Take a look at the following link.

It’s the WD AV. These drives are designed to last in high temperature always-on streaming digital audio/video environments such as PVR, DVR and IPTV systems.

That look like exactly what I need. Seems it doesn’t work well as a primary drive inside a desktop but works fine as a secondary and that works for me.
I seen these before but wasn’t sure if they would only work in DVR boxes.

Now I just need to decide if I get 2 or 3tb
