Westren Digital 2Tb external Hard drive problems

Hi all,

I have Westren digital 2 Tb external hard drive i bought last year. every thing was good until last week, the hard drive was nver fallen down and had no problems before. First it was very hard to detect, later it stated showing as Local Disk and wont open/explore. Right clicking and select open /explore gives the hard drive needs to be formatted. Went into Computer Management and changed the property to make it active and all but no change, it was shown healthy and no problems but i am not able to browse the drive. More over it was almost full and have a lot of data. Tried attaching to other laptops and still the same problem. I am attaching the images of what i explained… please help.

Thanks, Pavan.

The drive is corrupt. EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard http://www.ptdd.com/  or TestDisk http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk might fix it. As a last ditch use the MS Convert.exe http://support.microsoft.com/kb/214579 It’s for converting Fat32 to NTFS but sometimes it fixes raw partitions. Scroll down about half way for the command prompt.

thank you very much, i got the feeling it messed up file system from ntfs to raw. so the testdrive can be used to change the file system… thanks. running chksk from 10 hours hoping to see some magic.

C:\Users\MB>CONVERT v:/FS:NTFS
Drive V: is already NTFS.
