i have a western digital My Book Essential 1tb external hard drive it work fine on home pc running windows 7

i have now tryed to acces my hard drive via a windows xp machine while i am away and have access to everything but one folder which has all the stuff i need to access in it… this folder has about 500 gig of data in it… it shows on the hdd fine just get this message when trying to access

F: \new folder is not accessible

access Denied

any one got any ideas ???

the two machines are as follows

home: windows 7 64 bit intel pentum d 3.6ghz 4 gb ddr3 ram

friends: windows xp 32 bit amd 3.6ghz 1 gb ram ddr2

If you get the same message when copying the files to the pc you have a corrupted file or partition

check the drive for problems with chkdsk or other software

you will need a recovery software to retrieve the files and then reformat the drive
