I just purchased the Western Digital-My Book 1TB External USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive for Mac. I have four Mac including an  MacBook Pro, an iMac, and two Mac Books. Can I partition this drive so that it can backup all four Macs? Can I still use the WD Smartware. Or is this external HD limited to backing up one Mac?

You can use it to back up as many machines as you wish.

As long as each machine named is differently.

If you are more familiar with Time machine, you are free to use it.

I would suggest that you let the Time machine to format the drive to apple partition.

Then you do not need to install the WD Smartware.

Or if you wish, you can use the WD Smartware provided.
