I just bought the Western DIgital Media plus Player. It came with 1.4 firmware. I am trying to get Playon to work, but it is saying there is no network connection. I also tried 1.5 and 1.3.49, but still the same issue. I am conected to the Internet via and Ethernet connection. My Virus protection is kaspersky and that seems to be allowing playon in it’s firewall. Can anyone tell me what firmware they have had success with when using Playon with there WDMPlayer. The items (amazon, espn.com,hulu) show up on the screen for 1 sec and then go away. Thanks for any suggestions.
If PlayOn is saying there is no network connection, then the problem is with PlayOn. Go here for support- http://www.playon.tv/forum
If your WDTV cannot connect to PlayOn then-
-
Update your WDTV to the latest firmware.
-
Shutdown your whole network, routers, computers, WDTV and any other devices
-
Startup your network in the following sequence-
a) Startup your router and any switches
b) Startup the computer running PlayOn, wait for several minutes until the PC is fully up and running
c) Startup the WDTV, wait a minute or so until the WDTV has discovered PlayOn
d) Try and play a media stream from PlayOn
If step 3.d fails then you either have a local network problem or PlayOn is not configured corectly on your PC.
Try completely uninstalling Kapersky, then reboot your PC. And PS- Microsoft Security Essentials and MS Firewall provide equal security protection as Kapersky.
Either way I would suggest going over to the PlayOn forums to get advice.
I appreciate your response and will try the troubleshooting steps tonight. Thanks
I remember reading in another post that the wireless and LAN connection could not be on at the same time. This actually solved the problem. I connected just be LAN and turned off the wireless and that worked. I could also access Playon with just wireless as well which is a nice bonus as I have a Laptop. I am unable to access my computer files (Video’s, Pictures etc) through My Laptop (Media Servers) running with just wireless. I have to have the LAN connection to access my computer files. The WDMP is connected to the router directly with an Ethernet cable. Thanks
I have the plus and have been a user of Playon since its launch. I still use 1.03.49 due to an unrelated issue and have no problem with Playon. In fact, I just watched Hulu last night and playback was fine.
You said that the options come up for a second which suggests the WDTV can see Playon. Sounds like a network or firewall issue.
For comparison, I am running Playon 3.3.7.2015 on XP Pro with MSSE and Windows Firewall enabled. There is an exception in Windows Firewall for MediaMall Server, but you can easily test whether the firewall is the issue by temporarily disabling it. I, too, have a wired network.
I presume you can access Netflix right? I mean, you have tested your network connection on the WDTV?
