When I click on the link it does not take me to the download. is there other firmware besides the beta public link or is the above one right. I have been having trouble getting sound to come through some of my Blu Ray m2ts files. I’m hoping new firmware will address this issue. Thanks for any help!
No, that takes you to BETA software which is limited to certain users only. As long as your Live+ is connected to the network, it will automatically check and invite you to download the latest production firmware, if a newer one is available.
I don’t have it hooked up to the Internet yet. I guess I could connect it while upgrading the firmware. Is there no file that I can put on a flash drive to do the update. Thanks.
So your saying that even when hooked up to the internet there won’t be a firmware update available. What is causing the no sound on some of the Blu Ray movies. I am hooked up via a HDMI for video and sound. Thanks
Do you mean that now there is firmware out for the media Player plus. Is it accessible via a thumb drive or only through online updates. Will future firmware address the issue of not playing audio with DTS-HD MA. How can I convert the audio to Dolby True-HD, or DTS 5.1 etc. Will there be any loss in quality of the sound or audio by doing this. Which sound format is considered better. Thanks for the help
I am disappointed that the media player will not support DTS-HD MA. I am really hoping that the sound or video quality is not comprimised by me having to convert the audio to dolby digital. Can you tell me if the audio quality is the same for both the codecs mentioned above. I have the main blu ray file in a m2ts file ripped from AnyDVD. What program would I use for this conversion. I don’t know if I can change the setting of audio codec AnyDVD uses. Thanks for the help.
I looked at the back of some blu ray movies and realized that they either come in DTS- HD master audio or Dolby Digital. I guess this means that I will have to convert all my movies audio codec to Dolby digital. What programs are other people using. Is TXmuxer and option. Why is DTS-HD given a license to the Asus media Player and not the Western Digital Media Plus player? Thanks.
You shouldn’t have to convert anything; the audio should be converted in the WDTV to DTS 5.1.
As to why others (more than Asus) are doing it and WD is not is unknown. All we’ve heard from WD is that DTS will NOT license ANY Media Streamer to play DTS-HD MA unless that streamer has a built-in BD Optical Drive. It could very well be that those other companies are doing so WITHOUT a license.
I am a little confused. Your saying that the Western Digital Media Player should automatically convert my audio from DTS-HD to DTS 5.1. Then shouldn’t I be able to hear the sound on my Blu Ray movies through the media player? I have a Blu Ray Optical drive on my computer that I am ripping my blu ray movie from. Does it have anything to do with the way the sound is coming through (optical, HDMI connection)? Appreciate the help
That’s my understanding, but I haven’t tried it myself direct from a raw BD rip…
I do have a test file that someone else created that’s an .M2TS file with DTS-HD in it, and it works sending out DTS 5.1
I can live with DTS 5.1. Even AC3 is fine. As for sending out DTS 5.1:
[…]Cleverly, the extra layers, or extensions as DTS call them, do not duplicate any information in the Core Stream. The HD encoder takes the Core Stream, compares it with the uncompressed input, and produces a ‘difference’ signal made up of the information that was thrown away by the lossy compression. The DTS-HD decoder then takes the lossy Core Stream and the HD Master Audio stream, and combines them into an output that is identical to the original uncompressed studio output.
This technique has been brilliantly engineered to guarantee backwards compatibility, because the Core Stream is still playable on old decoders. For example, if an end user has a Blu-ray drive in a Sony Playstation 3 but hasn’t bought a new audio receiver with the new decoders in it, he or she can still view the HD content using an HDMI connection to their high-definition screen, while taking the digital audio stream from the Playstation 3 and decoding the 1.509Mbps Core Stream to get 5.1 surround audio at 48kHz…
Thanks for the good information! I am unsure why I can’t hear sound coming through my m2ts file if the WDMP converts the sound to DTS5.1? Can you offer any more suggestions. What is the exact setting for audio settings:
Stereo
Digital - optical
Digital without HDMI - this sounds like optical as well.

Could someone elaborate on this please.
I was under the impression that the info is correct. I have no media with DTS-HD MA.
Was this working with you before? If yes, how? DTS-HD MA can not be carried over optical or coax. You need HDMI and a digital receiver to handle it. This is in case WD Plus unit is not doing anything with the signal. This maybe the case, and I am guessing here - maybe WD never bothered with it because Dolby Digital 5.1 AC3 and/or DTS 5.1 are MANDATORY on blu-ray video discs.
Tony - What digital receiver are you using? Could it be that the digital receiver is converting to DTS 5.1 and WD Plus just passing the audio over HDMI?
My personal opinion: DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD are theatrical audio releases. Handing them to the public opened a pandora’s box of confusion. I do not touch these formats and I do not like them. I am not willing to go beyond 5.1 and Dolby Digital AC3 and DTS 5.1 are fine with me. Lossy compression? Who cares! So is MP3
I am learning alot by people posting and giving great information. I am using a HDMI cable for my Audio and Video with no reciever, but still no sound. What makes you be able to hear DTS-HD MA using HDMI and not optical? Thanks

Optical doesn’t have the bandwidth for HD audio. I’ve seen comments that the latest optical spec could handle it but I’ve never seen any claims of it working in the real world.
