WDTV LIVE SMP subtitle issues

The MKV Toolnix and MakeMKV are two seperate programs, how does MakeMKV know to disable header removal… in the future?

It doesn’t, Pecker’s post you quote was misleading. MakeMKV does not touch the header removal setting, only mkvmergeGUI (part of the MKVtoolnix package) does. Until Mike adds zlib compression to MakeMKV, the workflow stays the same:

  • Use MakeMKV to make an MKV (d’uh) from a Bluray, dropping all unwanted tracks.
  • remux the mkv in MKVToolnix (with header removal compression disabled) which will automatically apply zlib

  compression to any sub track.

Thank you, Techflaws. You’ve confirmed what I suspected.

The movies ripped with MakeMKV play with subtitles perfectly on my pc w/o any alteration…  Why can’t they play with the WD likewise? To me it should be a simple thing for WD to fix.

Do you know?

Thanks

D.

Do I really have to spell it out, again? They don’t play cause the WD expects them to be zlib compressed as is default setting according to MKV specs. Still, IMO they also should support uncompressed as well. Can’t say if/when they’ll do.
