WDTV Live requiring Factory Reset

Hoping someone can help me or at least pass this along to the developers.

My device needs a constant “reset to factory defaults” from the menu to function.  If I don’t do this, it won’t recognize certain file types like AVI.  It also will connect to YouTube, but fails to play any videos.  It will search fine, but when you select a video, you get the endless spinning blue wheel.

After a reset, everything works fine.  I have seen posts on the internet of other people who’ve had this same problem.

This has happened for my device in the last two firmware upgrades.   I was hoping the upgrades would solve the problem, but it hasn’t.  I even downgraded, and it didn’t help.

This is happening whether or not the device is connected to an external drive, so deleting the “.wd” file doesn’t help.

What were you doing?

Nothing, just trying to play regular videos.

-

Does this happen every time?

Everytime

-

What hardware and media were you using?

WDTV Live, latest firmware

-

Did this happen with previous firmware?

Yes

-

Does power cycling the unit solve this?

no

-

Does resetting to factory defaults solve this?

Yes, every time

I don’t know much about this device, but I suspect I have some corrupted section of the onboard flash drive.  It just doesn’t make sense why it would be consistent through firmware updates.

What were you doing?

Nothing, just trying to play regular videos.

Well there is no such thing as regular video  :frowning:
but
I can only suggest you to use 2.04.13  firmware
most users find it to be very stable
