WDTV Live plus play poor performance on VCD files

Hello,

I have a WDTV Live Plus HD. It has the 1.05.04 firmware installed . ( http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=1006&lang=en ). It’s plays poorly performance on the .dat extension video file. It is jerky, not smooth. It happened several times during 3 minutes song.  I ripped it from a VCD (Video CD). That VCD file is play back fine on computers.

Anyone has this problem and how to fix it?

Thank you for sharing.

Please post the full TEXT output of MEDIAINFO for such a file.

I also updated the firmware to 1.06.16 (8/2/2011) from  this link http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/updates/?family=wdfwdtv_liveplus    but still not fix the issue.

Where do you see in the supported formats that this video can be played?

Thank you pamott100 for the Ref the sticky   http://community.wdc.com/t5/General-Discussions/General-information-on-video-file-formats-and-codecs….  It is really helpful info.

FYI: prior to firmware 1.05.XX this WDTV unit was able to play any  of these  .DAT videos so smoothly. It seems like the newer firmware, hardware and technology is trying to skip this video file format.

Anyone else has any ideas and suggestions please feel free to drop your input here. THANKS.

There’s nothing special about a VCD file.

It’s just MPEG Video and MPEG audio.

The WD *should* be able to play it without issue.

Firmware 1.06.16 is still not fix this issue.

May be on the next release 1.06.17 or later.

I hope that WD release the fix before X-mas 2011.

Note: WD fixed this issue on the Live HUB on 2.08.13 (10/2011).

The new WDTV Live (Gen 3) has no issue at all with these VCD video files.
