I know AVI is just a container, and that there are many codecs used to fill it. But I am surprised that WDTV won’t play AVI files generated by Pinnacle Studio Plus 15.
I did a quick check on the contents of the AVI and it reports:
AVI(OpenDML)(DVCPRO)
VIDEO STREAM: DV(Sony)
The setting on the WDTV is for HDMI output, and I am in Ireland - a PAL location.
I could use a software pack to convert to another AVI format, but some of these files are very large, and I would like to avaoid this extra step.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!!

You could post the text output of media info using one of your files, but I believe that its down to your files being DV which the player does not support. Can you save them in another format.

Untick the boxes if you don’t want the extras.
Rich is correct. “DV” is considered an “acquisition” codec, not a “Delivery” codec. The handful codecs that WD supports are all “Delivery” codecs.

I am having the same problem. The AVI movie plays with Win Media Player on my PC

You should post the complete text output. Copy and paste.
