Purchase a WDTV LIVE seem to have installed the wrong firmware 1.03.38 V and cannot go back to factory setting with the reset button or via the menu. First I am wrong in saying that the 1.03.38 V is not for the WDTV Live (not the PLUS version)
I have try what is suggested in many forum with no success. Did try to downgrade 1.02.21 in the USB stick with no success. Any suggestion or ideas are welcome.
Why I say strange my serial number and product number on the box is not the same in the Setting / About it say’s
Ver. 1.03.38V Partn WDAAN000NBK (no typo error) when the PN on the box is WDBAAN000NBK-00. Might be normal I am just asking.

Welcome to the forums
First of all, it’s not the “wrong” version – it’s a beta version, and you might not have wanted to try that, but it would not have installed on your Live if it were a version that was not correct for it (there is both a 1.03.38 for the Live as well as the Plus).
Next, the important question is – does your Live work correctly? Don’t worry about what firmware is on it right now, does it do what you want it to do? If not, what is it doing wrong? (We’ll help you with that and it most likely will not involve downgrading to the release version of the firmware).

for the WD TV LIVE there were several beta releases, some only available for a very short time on the wdc web sides:
1.03.38
1.03.39
1.03.40
As far as I can see, there has been never a 1.03.38 for the WD TV LIVE PLUS so normally the 1.03.38 should be the right one for your hardware WDAAN000NBK. The WD TV LIVE PLUS would show WDBABX0000NBK.

Coming back to you original problem: Could you give us some more detailed information what your problem(s) is(are), so you try to make a factory reset and what happens if you try to use the normal procedure?
And give us some more information what you tried “what is suggested in many forum with no success”.

You can’t install the WRONG firmware, the device won’t let you.
_V software is Live.
_B software is the Live+.
