WDTV Live has suddenly stopped being recognised by the TV

My WD TV Live that has been working beautifully for the past 2 years has suddenly stopped being recognised by the TV.

I made no changes whatsoever.

  • It still has power (the light comes on)

  • the external HDD attached to it still powers up when the WDTV Live is turned on

  • I have tried using a different HDMI cable

  • I have tried using a different TV

  • I have tried resetting the WDTV Live

Every time I try, the TV says ‘no signal’, like the WD TV Live is not being recognised.

Please help!

You can try hooking it up via the included Composite Video cable and see if there’s any signal at all…

If so, reset it via the menus, and then try the HDMI connection again.

Thanks for the reply Tony.  When I plug it in with the composite video cable I get this on screen:

I thought it might have been an NTSC/PAL error, so I tried resetting the WDTV Live for 10 seconds - still no joy.

Does this mean my WD TV is dead?

I have resigned myself to the fact that I might have to buy a new one, just don’t want to do it until I absolutely have to.

You are using the WD-provided AV cable, correct?   (“off the shelf” cables won’t work.)

If so, then yeah, it looks dead to me…
