WDML5000TN passport elite

I have this WDML5000TN  passport elite drive.

It works fine with Win XP (32-bit). But it is not recognized by my Windows 7 64-bit laptop.

Does anyone have a clue what to do about this

Follow the instructions here…

Press WIN key +R. You’ll be presented with RUN dialogue box. Type diskmgmt.msc and click enter. On disk Management window look for your drive without a drive letter. Right click and choose “Assign Drive Letter & Paths”.

Now select ADD and choose letter W for your drive. Don’t enter drive letter E, to P or so. This will create unnecessary issues later on. Look bellow…

Thanks, but this does not work since the drive is not being recognized in the first place.

If you cannot see your drive in Windows device manager means you have either bad USB connection or a faulty drive.

Try different ports on the PC preferably one on the back and don’t use a hub.

I have confirmed that this is a 64-bit issue . I tried the drive on a 32-bit windows 7 machine and it works. But my 64-bit windows 7 machine will not recognize it. Anyone has any ideas?
