WDLive samba doesnt read file names - lists NA

Hi everybody, first timer here…bought a WDLive couple weeks ago in my persuit of being a cordcutter, and have found some quirks that i cant find addressed in the forums ( I appologize if it has already been adressed, and link to thread is fine ) Thanks in advance… yes, we have latest firmware…1st issue is when exiting NetFlix, we have found that we HAVE to turn off the streamer to enter either into the browser again fo access the network or file storage, to complete, or it just hangs till hard reboot…same issue when changing from Netflix to any other service like Hulu…is this a known problem or is my unit defective? 2nd) even thou the streamer will load about any file extension out there, the audio track is rarely sync’d on flv files, even thou i can play same file on computer player and its fine. 3) when downloading a web file to store and play, WDlive is unable to read the file name, calls it NA when viewed on the FILE samba list. The crazy thing is when viewed from WDlive/video tab, using dlna, it can see the file name correctly. I can take the same file, put it on a local storage usb drive, when viewed from the WDlive/File tab, it still is unable to read the file name, but if viewed from my computer across the network to the WDLive storage, windos see the file name correctly…ive tried about everything i can think of… onlything i have found is a breif mention of an 8.3 filename problem created by the NTFS partitioin it was originally downloaded to. Any help would be appreciated, THANKS again

What is the file name that it can’t read properly - give an example.

What happens if you rename the file?

How do you currently attempt to exit netflix.

There may be something wrong with your flv file. Software players and hardware plays are two different things.

That’s a new one – haven’t heard of this issue before.

Are you sure there’s no associated XML file that’s being copied with the file?   N/A is a normal display if the metadata in XML files are incomplete.

Otherwise, it sounds like it might be something wrong in the metadata within the file (though I didn’t think the WD would try to read the internal metadata.)    Depending on the type of file, you can use a metadata editor to delete or correct the info.

As to the FLV issue, FLV is a dodgy container.   It is only supported if the video is h.264 (a/k/a AVC video) and the only supported audio formats are AAC or MP3 audio.    Unless your file matches those conditions, WD won’t do much (if anything) about it.
