WDIDLE3 on WD80EAAZ Drive

That didn’t answer the question. Why was there a change in the newer models that stopped WDIDLE3 from working?

WDIDLE3 is unneeded as disks automate everything. WDIDLE3 was only needed decades ago, modern disks have far better controller logic.

Do the new drives still have the default park setting at 8 seconds?

I know drives park even faster now mostly to be ready for bumps etc. Disks are very fast with the automated functions as new generation controller logic is now faster and more capable. The latest models are just that much more reliable.

Disks also check blocks for reliability and swap them when needed but this is transparent to the user

I went ahead and bought the drive. 40 minutes after installing and initializing the drive, the load cycle count is at 11. That seems a bit high in that short of time.

My Seagate 4GB drives show load/unload cycle and I ignore it as it irrelevant to the operation of the disk, my WD server disks also have load/unload, again not a vital issue

My disks have lot of power on hours so the load/unload is not zero
