WDC WD7500AAKS-00RBA0 Spin Up Time S.M.A.R.T. failure

Hi There,

I have recently been receiving warning messages from Windows 7 indicating that my hard drive will fail soon.

When I downloaded and ran WD’s Lifeguard Diagnostic the quick test passes, but when I look at the smart failure details the one thing that does fail is “Spin up Time” which shows an ID of 3, Value of 247, Threshold of 21, Worst of 3 and Warranty of 1.

Is there anything that can be done about this error message, or is the drive defective?

Also, does the Warranty 1 indicate that the drive is still under warranty and can be replaced?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

the sindle motor is dying

backup your data as soon as possible

do not turn it off if you have the computer on until you backup the data

Hi David,

Thanks for the quick response.

Any idea about the warranty column in the SMART error codes?  I notice some items are listed as 0 for warranty and others are listed as 1.  Do these denote issues that are and are not covered under warranty?

Thanks.

maybe some user later can have a response to your questions
