Now i didnot use the laptop for some time and i forgot the password and cant use my laptop. Is there some way of getting the password disambled ? The data on the drive is not the point i got a backup on my network drive. I tried to connect the drive to my PC and use the HDD Unlock untility it shows HDD Locked and cant unlock. In windows i can see the drive but cant acces it. I wold need to remowe the password reformat the drive or somthing so i coulduse the drive again.

Hi well from what WD tells us Reformatting the drive will erase all the data on the unit, as well as remove the password from the drive. Here is the help page for that .  http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3741#failed   near the bottom it tells you about formating it.

If the data are not important, and if the master password has not been changed, then an ATA Secure Erase may recover your drive.

Otherwise there is a long thread at HDD Guru …
