WD5000F032 and System Freeze using eSATA

Greetings All.

I did some research but found nothing conclusive.  I wanted to use the eSATA interface to backup some data, but my system would just lock up.  I’m fairly confident BIOS and drivers are at latest level.

Suspecting the MY Book is overheating, however I’m soliciting help from experts here on why the freeze is happening and if there’s any way to effectively use the eSATA interface without opening the casing.

The USB 2.0 interface does work, albeit the data transfer is much slower.  I can live with this if I have to, but as I said, I’d like to understand the eSATA issue in more detail.

My product is out of warranty as this was one of the original MY Books first released.

TIA

It’s possible there’s a controller issue when used via eSATA. If this is physical then it’s a sign of the drive’s overall health status.

Regards,
