WD5000AZRX Green is an Advanced Format Drive

Upon install of the Green WD5000AZRX  hard drive, I found it is not yet listed on the website and I needed to know if it is an Advanced Format Drive. It is and requires install of AcronisAlignTool_s_e_2_0_111   from the Windows environment.

If this is a fresh XP OS  install you will need to first run the Align program prior to OS install. Placing the drive in another computer  was suggested by support to use the Graphical interface in a Windows environment
 AcronisAlignTool_s_e_2_0_111.exe (69.3 MB)

WD Align is only necessary for users who have:

  • Installed Windows XP to a WD AFD
  • Cloned a source bootable hard drive with any Windows OS to a target AFD
  • Created single or multiple partitions on an AFD using Windows XP

This will allow the drive to work at expected optimal performance.

Since I had so much time involved looking for this Drive on the website,
and about  45 min on hold for support assistance,
I thought posting the info here would be helpful to those few people needing to install on Windows XP.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing this information.

You are very welcome…

This has been a bit of a challenge, LOL,

I’m now having to look into why my system ( Dell 8400 XP ) is not seeing my newly purchased Hard Drive, LOL…

Going to check BIOS , make sure it’s enabled. Should already be in ACHI mode. Although this has IDE ODD’s, it should still be seen in the mish-maush… lol… I doubt I got a failed hard drive, WD has been good to me. I am still running the original 10 yr old HDD installed when purchased. And they say they don’t last, LOL. I have a ton of programs from video and graphic programs to flash, Frontpage and Office 2003 complete. Even Impact Pro, lol, than thing is a bit intense and too old too, lol.

If I can add anything I will surely do so.
