wd5000 can be ejected but won't show in My Computer

After some research, I found that a mybook not showing up in My Computer is not uncommon, and sometimes may not indicate a failed drive, but a problem with the enclosure. I’m not sure if I should open the case, because the drive doesn’t seem to be entirely invisible to my pc. I am able to eject the drive, as well as view it in Device Manager. Is it possible I can get things running, or is it time for a new drive? Any help would be appreciated.
