wd40efrx lcc

I have a problem with the new 4TB RED drive. I am using synology ds1511+ and a DX510 expansion.

It seems that the 4TB has a high LCC compared to my 3TB RED. The 3TB was installed months ago while the 4TB was installed 3days ago. Here are the Stats:

3TB :

Power_On_Hours - 5479

Load_Cycle_count - 36

4TB:

Power_On_Hours - 76

Load_Cycle_count - 288

Obviously, something is not right regarding the 4TB. Is there any fix on this? Firmware update maybe?

Thanks!

Dear all,

I have the same problem!

I have WD40EFRX-68WT0N0 Firmware 80.00A80 production date 14 sept.2013

I want to check and compare your Smart value with mine that I find “strange” as value for a new drive, compared with other WD hard disk!!!

Could you please tell me the SMART value “CURRENT” and “WORST” for:

01-Raw_read_error_rate

03-Spin_up_time

07-Seek_error_rate

MY SMART value are:

_____________________Actual___Worst___(Thresold__RAW)

01-Raw_read_error_rate__100_____253______ (51_____0)

03-Spin_up_time________100_____ 253______(21)

07-Seek_error_rate______100_____ 253______( 0_____0)

Other people with working disk, instead of “100” as actual value, have “253”!!!

I Asked to WD which must be this value but I didn’t received this answer.

Thanks!

Hi all

seems that WD gave to some user the WDIDLE3 v 2.0.0.1 to disable the LCC on the RED disk!!

Hi,

I have the same problem. now after 160h both drives have > 1400 LCC

I wrote a mail to WD and all that came back was some sh*t about how they test the drives and quality check them and so on…

also they said there is currently no Firmware to deactivate the LCC function for the WD40EFRX and the WDIDLE3 can only be used on your own risk but wont work for those drives.

If they continue to ignore the question if its a problem or not, I wont every buy a single HDD from WD again…

thats no customer support in my opinion.

Same here however i am using a WD40EZRX drive (green version). Having about 6000 LCC after 1186 hours of use.

1376 hours / LCC 699

I have 2 WD40EFRX  :

-time on : 78 hours

-load/unload cycle count : 128

I also have a 2Tb version :

-time on : 7649 hours

-load/unload cycle count : 170

WD : there is defenitly something wrong with WD40EFRX !!!

The ratio of load/unload cycle is abnormal on WD40EFRX :

-WD20EFRX : LCC ratio = 0.02

-WD40EFRX : LCC ratio = 1.64

I am having a similar problem with WD30EFRX.

Just got the drive from Amazon a couple of days ago.

Checked the Idle3 timer and found that it was set to 8 seconds.

Drive is at 1200 LCC in only 24 hours of operation.

Submitted a question to WD about this but have not received an answer yet.

Everything that I have read has only referred to the 4Tb and say the 3Tb are fine

Does someone have experiences with WD40EFRX modified with the tool from WD?

Does this solve the problem?

Hi!

I have to look at the production date, but i think not all WD RED 4TB have this problem.

I used this on the WD Red drives in my Synology NAS and it appears to resolve the excessive LCC issue.  Of course if you NAS sleeps and wakes up a lot the LCC count will increment.

I removed hard drive from my external NAS hard drive and I got the same model number as you WD40EFRX-68WT0N0, found it here. Seems like Load Cycle Count is still not solved
