after windows xp choked on this drive
windows 7 choked, only allowing 2tb to be manipulated.
rebooted using ubuntu 10 usb key
repartitioned 3 tb sata hdd as follows using ubuntu linux partition editor.
WD3TBA 1TB
WD3TBB 1TB
WD3TBC 840GB
as the index tables require a total of 160GB for the three partitions.
all worked well when I rebooted into windows7
i understand why windows xp could not manipulate the 3tb sata hdd.
i do not understand why windows 7 would not manipulate the partitions properly.
All is well and it works fine this way, at least I can utilize the 3gb now.
DELL bios ver A03 recognizes 3TB
all is well now and very fast
