I have a question about connecting my apple mac to the My Book Live across the internet.

Playing mp3 songs after connecting via wd2go/java works fine.
Playing the same mp3 songs after connecting via finder’s connect to server command afp://admin@ext.ip.address/Public the playback is very choppy.
Both connection options end up showing the WD in the Finder’s Shared section on the mac.
I would prefer not to use wd2go/java in order to access my WD across the internet when away from my home network.
So is there a way to connect to the WD remotely that is the same as wd2go/java?
