Hi there. I came across, days ago, with the “heads problem” on my 2 TB WD GREEN, which I bought a year ago.

No problems so far.

Hdtune, today, is showing “warning” on Reallocated Sector Count and Reallocated Event Count.

I´ve read in several forums about this issue, but nothing conclusive.

I just wanna know something:  What i need to download, and what to set. Please.

I cannot understand why WD haven´t put this utility… under my model

Hmmm…

“This utility is designed to upgrade the firmware of the following hard drives: WD1000FYPS -01ZKB0, WD7500AYPS -01ZKB0, WD7501AYPS -01ZKB0”

I wonder why WD wouldn’t put it under available downloads for a WD20EARS. :dizzy_face:

I don’t have an EARS anymore, but my EADS has 17281 hours and only 901 load cycles, so I certainly have no need for the utility.  I don’t recall my EARS having excessive load cycles, however.  My reading of the posts around here about the idle issue, seems to indicate it’s almost exclusively a linux issue.

Btw, im using my wd20ears under win7 x64.

Which is the best value to set with wdidle3_1_05 ?

  • /D → Disable

  • S/300 → 5 minutes

  • S/1000000000
